From 1996 up until 2002 right before this set was released, the highest level of rarity was a holo. Pokémon created a higher level category of top cards starting with these Shining Pokemon. Typically, there are 12 holos per booster box. When the shiny cards were introduced, there were only two per box, making these much rarer than the holos. These are now some of the most sought-after cards in the entire WOTC era. Neo Destiny 1st Edition booster boxes have now surpassed 200k which makes it nearly impossible to get these cards by opening them. The last sale of a complete set of PSA 10 1st Edition Shining Pokemon(8 total cards) sold for $260k in January.
